About A Girl
Finally a title than is self-explanatory. Kurt's then girlfriend, Tracy Marander, complained to him that he had written songs about everything except love. At this point they had been together for years and she basically supported Kurt completely. Nirvana was no where near a paycheck. Kurt was lazing around their apartment all day, watching TV, and practicing guitar. He barely did any chores and rarely contributed to any expenses. Tracy, rightly so, wanted to get some recognition for her devotion to Kurt. He acquiesced, and wrote this song. He never admitted that is was about Tracy though. When then drummer Chad Channing asked what the song was about he replied, "It's about a girl" and the name stuck. Kurt listened to the Meet the Beatles LP for 3 hours to get inspired to write this silly love song. In fact, it was so different from the other Nirvana sound that people thought it was a Beatles cover when it was performed.
Post Script
Tracy also took the photo for the cover of the Bleach LP.
